Best Candidates
There are many factors that can determine how straight your teeth are: if you sucked your thumb as a child, hereditary traits, losing a tooth or several teeth, or an injury to your jaw. Misaligned teeth may cause other oral health problems, such as a bad bite (dental malocclusion), ground-down enamel, difficulty chewing and speaking, plus toothaches and TMD (temporomandibular joint disorder). If your dental team sees any of these problems at your annual examination, we might suggest Invisalign®.
Clear Invisalign® aligners are good for teens and adults who would like to improve their smile but without the appearance and hassle of metal orthodontics. Even though your aligners should be in at least 20 hours a day, Invisalign® can be removed to brush your teeth and eat, plus for playing sports and special events. More discreet than traditional braces, most people won't know that you're wearing your Invisalign®.
What to Expect
Once we have created your treatment plan, your first Invisalign® trays will be made from the digital x-rays taken at our office. Once they are sent to our office, we will contact you to get your first aligners and instructions from your dentist. You need to use your aligners every day for at least 20 hours for the treatment to work, with the goal of only taking them out to brush your teeth and eat. After about two weeks, you should switch to your second set of aligners so they can continue to shift your bite closer to proper alignment. You should plan to attend appointments as recommend by your dentist so we can check your progress and get more digital x-rays taken that will be sent to Invisalign® so they can make your new aligners. How long you will need to wear your aligners will depend on your starting bite and your goals. Most patients use Invisalign® for an average of one year.
Treatment Aftercare
As soon as you have reached your Invisalign® goals, it is crucial to keep your teeth from moving back to their old position. Invisalign® Vivera® retainers are specially made to hold your teeth in place after your complete your final set of aligning trays. Your retainer will be specially made for you at the Invisalign® dental lab from digital x-rays taken at our office. We will tell you when to use your retainer and care instructions after it's returned to our office. Your dentist will continuously assess your alignment and bite during your dental examinations to ensure your teeth remain in the correct position.
The MINT Commitment
Usually, some of your costs for an Invisalign® treatment is paid if you have insurance. We will get more information on your specific policy coverage and then determine your costs. Our office takes several payments to cover your out-of-pocket expenses or if you aren't using insurance. At your consultation, your dentist can discuss estimates and how we can help make your treatment easier to afford with low-interest medical financing and flexible payment plans. It's important to remember that a healthy smile is part of a happy, healthy life. Our office is dedicated to helping you achieve this goal in an affordable fashion.
